Bukombo
Located in Masisi, North Kivu, Bukombo has experienced many cases of severe violence and massacres throughout conflict in the DRC. In November 2022, the neighbouring village of Kisheshe saw a massacre leaving several hundred dead and violence spilling out into the wider area.

July 2023
On the 19th July 2023, in the nearby Rutshuru area, 11 bodies were discovered at Rubona Hill with the attack attributed to M23 movement.
​
Following the discovery, one local civil society leader declared that "when they got to Bukombo-centre, they killed".
January 2024
On January 15 2024, around ten civilians were killed and many more missing following a new attack by the M23 movement.

The victims, including women and children were shot dead. As a result of the violence, sparking a new series of violent clashes in the are, the Igisenge Hutu association has issued a call to international community.

Some of the bodies, including a mother, her baby and two men, were discovered en route to the parish concession of Birambizo.
​
Locals to the parish also report that seven people were forcibly captured by M23 with no news as of yet on their well-being.
Due to the increasing numbers of quick violent clashes with rebel groups, bodies are unable to be disposed of in a safe and respectful manner. In the Bukombo and Rutshuru area, bodies are being left at religious and health sites with little to no burials.
