Summary

The Myanmar military stormed Yin Village and Kone Thar Village, in the Kani Township, Sagaing Region, on July 9
and 10, 2021. 26 villagers went missing, out of which 15 dead bodies were discovered near Khin Tan Shay Hill, east
of Yin Village, and 1 body was found in a nearby village. According to available footage, the bodies were found on
July 11 and 12, 2021. They show signs of severe torture.


The BBC reports that the killings were collective punishment for attacks by militia groups (People's Defence
Forces) demanding a return to democracy. Kani Township is reported to be an opposition stronghold.

It is difficult to ascertain the precise case location as the bodies were found on the forest floor, i.e., there is no mass
grave or terrain aberrations as such. The following are areas around the Eastward-hills, all accessible by road.
The reference point for measuring distance is taken as the local school.​
